Mumford and Sons Live in Cape Town

Last week Friday 29 January I was very lucky to have gotten tickets to see Mumford and Sons perform live in Cape Town for the very first time. This was in fact their first time ever playing a gig in South Africa. The tickets for their South African part of their Tour, Gentleman of the Road, (in Cape Town, Durban & Pretoria) sold out so fast the moment it released, that the band decided to add more shows to their South African tour.

The Cape Town show was at the Grand Parade, so we went early to make sure we get the perfect spot for the evening. It was a crazy hot day in Cape Town and for once there was no wind, the weather was actually just perfect. The performances before Mumford were; John Wizards, The very Best and Beatenberg.

Mumford and Sons started at about 10pm and best of all they opened the show with my all time favorite song, ‘Snake eyes‘ I was sooo happy, singing and screaming along. The stage was amazing and the lights as well, the entire vibe at the Grand Parade felt like a music festival. Of course ‘I will wait‘ and ‘Little Lion man‘ were very big crowd pleasers and you could hear the crowd singing along to every word!

I loved everything about the show, this was by far one of the best bands I have ever seen live, they are so musically talented. On stage there were a couple of electric guitars, a banjo, a double bass, trumpets, a piano, a tambourine and more.. It was amazing, I literally closed my eyes a few moments just to take it all in.

And then this happened; Marcus Mumford decided to enter the crowd whilst singing ‘Ditmas‘ and the crowd went crazy. At the end of the show they sang two acoustic songs standing around one microphone with one guitar, it was beautiful and they have the best stage personalities.

They also Released a new song on stage that night, ‘There will be Time‘ ft Baaba Maal.

If I ever get another opportunity to see Mumford and Sons live I will go without a doubt, they are very talented and sound even better live than on their cd, if that’s even possible. It was an incredible night!!
